Match Report of Hardy B team, Meyrick Park v Came Down on 13/07/19
The Hardy B team travelled to Bournemouth to play Meyrick Park in high hopes after remaining the only un-defeated team in the division after 3 matches.
What they found was that if we thought we had problems at Came Down with our Fairways following the very dry summer last year, then Meyrick were 10x time’s worst then ours! The instruction was from the Meyrick Captain to both teams was to play preferred lies on all Fairways if you could find small grass to place it on!!!
But if their fairways were in poor conditions then credit to them for some superb lush Greens.
First pair again was the pairing of Mark Bonnett and Jamie Newsam. Came needed to hit the ground running and get early points. Well these 2 did exactly that, 4 up at the turn after hitting a great 38 on the front 9, the boys carried on paring holes, with a birdie chucked in to help. A great 5 and 4 win for the first pair.
Next out, the SAS, Snip Watts and Squeak Membury. Up early, then back level, then down, but level at the turn. These 2 slipped to a 3 and 2 defeat, which must go down to great golf by the Meyrick pair, as on one hole Squeak thought his birdie was good to win it, only for one of the Meyrick players scoring an eagle to win it!!
Third out the paring of Paul Walker and Dave Whittingham making his Hardy B debut. 1 down on the first hole, which turned into 3 down after 4. Paul and Dave battled away, and twice got the game back to only 1 down despite playing some good level par golf. They ran out of holes on 17 and slipped to a 2 and 1 defeat.
Roger Chadwick and Ross Sandercock were 4th pair out. Playing some really good golf, they turned the front 9 at 1 up, going 2 up after 10. Slipping back to 1 up, they then got back to 2 up with 2 to play. This looked like a win for the Came pair to level the match against Meyrick, but losing the last 2 holes to Luke of Meyrick Park pairing, they were gutted to have to settle for a halved match.
Last out were Captain Stewart Green, back with James Baker of his new handicap of 12! Good golf from the Meyrick pair combined with some very poor golf from the Came pair, they turned the front nine 5 down, then going 6 down after 10! Came kicked into action, James birdies 11, pars 12, birdies 13, Stewart pars 14 & 15, they are back to 2 down with 3 to play, and the Meyrick pair are wobbling. Mistakes by both Came players on 16 let Meyrick back and they win 16 to send the Came pair to a 3 and 2 defeat!
Final score Meyrick Park 3.5 Came Down 1.5.
Came now need to win their last 2 games for any chance of promotion in 2019.
