Hardy A Cup Final v Weymouth Away First Leg
Weymouth Golf Club was the venue for the first leg of the Hardy A cup final. A warm, swirling winded afternoon greeted Came Down but Captain Ford’s instructions were clear. Play smart, play the percentages and take your chances on the greens.
Gareth Hughes led the line again in a very tight match, that was nip and tuck for most of the game but two birdies on 16 and 17 gave the Weymouth number 1 a 2&1 win.
Matthew Lawes was off second and also had a tough match. Littered with birdies everywhere, ironically they shared double bogey 6s on the last to share a halved match.
Ryan Ford was third and lost his opening two holes. However 13 pars in 14 holes put Captain Ford ahead but a poor finish, bogeying the final four holes resulted in a disappointing half.
Baby bound Chris Skinner went fourth and he continued his fantastic cup run with a brilliant performance to win 3&2, maintaining a 100% winning record of 3 out of 3.
Alan Harris was next and found the tree-line, bouncy conditions tough and was 6 down at the turn. However a great fight back made the score line respectable but ultimately losing 3&2.
Stuart Chainey also found it tough out there and was 4 down with 6 to play. But a run of pars and a birdie, and a little bit of luck got him back to 1 down with 1 to play. Stuart dug very deep and took advantage with a final hole shot to secure a halved match.
In form postman, Ben Tyrrell, used valuable Weymouth GC experience to dismantle another opponent. 5 Birdies in 13 holes got the job done with a stunning 7&5 win. More importantly continues his 100% win record with 10 wins out of 10.
With the match poised at 3.5-3.5 Dan Whitehead, ex Weymouth member, dug deep to put one over on his opponent and recovered from 1 down with 1 to play to secure a very important half on the last.
The score after leg 1 being 4-4, Came require just 4.5 points to win the Hardy A cup. The Final leg is at Home on Saturday 21st September at 2.15pm. Please come up and support the boys and watch some fantastic standard of golf. We wish Captain Ford and his superstars the very best of luck in putting in a professional performance and getting the job done.
