Hardy A Cup Semi Final Report v Bridport
A warm, windy afternoon greeted the two teams for the cup semi final, hosted at The Dorset Golf and Country Club.
Captain Ford had a real selection headache as only players who had played twice this the cup run would be eligible to play in the final, meaning a slight re-shuffle from a few of the regular players if Came were fortunate to win the Semi.
Matt Lawes, making his second cup appearance teed up first and came out all guns blazing. He birdied 4 of the opening 5 holes and took a very commanding early lead. He cruised to a very comfortable 3&2 win.
Captain Ford was next and in true leadership fashion, got off to a flyer and was 3up after 6. He maintained this all the way round to shake hands on the 16th green.
Chris Skinner had another rare outing, and made his opportunity count. He also took the early initiative and was in complete control of his match and ran out a 4&3 winner.
Welsh Wizard Hughes Senior was out fourth. However a few bad breaks and a few missed putts compounded him to an early bath and his second defeat in a row. Hopefully he can bounce back like his rugby team did last weekend!
Fifth out was Alan “The Bookie” Harris. Alan managed to make one of the comebacks of the season with a stunning halved match after being 3 down with 3 to play. Odds on that was 100/1 based on previous form!
With just 1 point required in the final 3 matches, Vice Captain Steve Wells managed to take the glory and stroll in looking like a Cheshire Cat after his 3&2 victory. Later we realised that he was only looking like a Cheshire Cat because The Dorset had Birra Moretti on tap!
Stuart Chainey got revenge on his playing partner from earlier in the season with a brilliant 3&2 win.
Radar Tyrrell continued his 100% winning record this season with an excellent 4&3 win. That’s now 7/7 from Came Down’s new postman!
Came Down now play Weymouth in the Hardy A Cup Final. A two legged match that will be arranged very soon during September. Congratulations to Matt Lawes, Chris Skinner, Geraint Hughes, Alan Harris, Steve Wells, Stuart Chaney, Ben Tyrrell, Dan Whitehead, Brian Hansford and Ryan Ford. This squad of players will all play some part in this year’s final.
