Hardy A report v Dudsbury

A windy, showery day greeted Dudsbury to a Hardy A cup Quarter Final match with the undefeated and magnificent Came Down.

Gareth Hughes led the line and found himself in trouble at the turn, being 2 down. However some excellent golf up the top, including 4 birdies, won him 5 holes in a row. Dudsbury’s number one fought hard to take Muscles down the 18th where they halved the hole, giving a crucial first win to Came.

Captain Ford produced another captain’s performance. Winning the first hole signalled his intentions for the day as he cruised to a comfortable 3&2 victory. A personal highlight was a stunning birdie up the 9th against the stroke given was key in winning this match.

Welsh Wizard Hughes Snr teed up third and dominated the early holes to take the early advantage. Never in danger of letting the match slip, Nipper cruised to a commanding 4&3 win.

Vice Captain Steve Wells was fourth and was up against a very tough opponent. His man, or should we say 13year old boy, playing off 6 didn’t roll over and Steve had to work extra hard to grind out a well earned 2&1 win. However Steve was more annoyed that his opponent wasn’t legally allowed to buy him a beer in the bar after!

First appearance of the season for Alan Harris provided much excitement and entertainment. He had a classic ding dong with his opponent but unfortunately ended up with a dong and losing on the last hole to keep Dudsbury in the tie.

Stuart Chainey continued his fine form with a brilliant 4&3. This secured the win and Came’s passage into the Semi Final.

Dan Whitehead thought he was in for a long afternoon after a fabulous tee shot on the first, which didn’t clear the mound off the tee! But Dan rallied quickly to soon take the lead and continued his undefeated record in his Hardy A career with a wonderful 3&2.

Brian “The Dawg” Hansford was disappointed that his match didn’t finish on the 13th and had to grind hard to win on the last for a 2up win. He told me he needed an afternoon siesta as he didn’t realise how far 18 hole were in this year’s Hardy A. The Dawg is one of two players with a 100% win record this season.

Came Down had finished off with a stunning 7-1 victory. They now play either Bridport or Isle of Purbeck in the Semi Final. This will be held at a neutral venue.

Congratulations and well done to everyone involved.
