Hardy A Report V Lyme Regis
Came Down knew that with victory would win division 4 with a game to spare. On a warm, blustery day, Came hosted Lyme Regis.
Tony Howe led the team off and although playing some great golf on the back 9, he lost his match 2&1. Gareth Hughes went next, giving 5 shots but played some blistering golf and winning his match 6&5. Captain Ryan Ford had a slow start and was 3 down after 5 holes but 6 birdies in 12 holes made sure that he secured a 3&1 victory.
Mike Spearing lost his 100% record with a 3&2 defeat. The Welsh Wizard, Geraint Hughes, came home in 34 shots only to record a half against his opponent. Another fantastic effort from the Welshman.
Mike Ford had a slow start but couldn’t manage to overcome a poor start and came up short, eventually losing on the 16th green. Late stand-in and Hardy A debutant Stuart Chainey came into the team and didn’t disappoint. He gave his opponent a golfing lesson and won his match 5&4.
With the match in the balance it was left to Andrew Heap to bring home the final point, however his opponent hit his approach into the 18th to a few feet and sunk the birdie putt to condone Andrew to his first defeat of the season and victory to Lyme Regis of 4.5-3.5.
The champagne remains on ice for the Championship trophy. Came Down now need a win to guarantee the title away to Moors Valley on Saturday 29th September, however if results in the next week fall their way, a draw will also be enough to secure top spot.
Thanks to all that took part and we wish the boys the very best of luck in bringing home the title in the next couple of weeks.
