Hardy A Match Report v Broadstone.
It was Quarter Final Day in the Hardy A cup and Came Down had a tricky away tie to Broadstone.
The first group went off in the peak temperatures of the day at 33 degrees on a fiery, bouncy Broadstone course.
Mark Stickley, fresh after his 67 gross just 24hrs earlier lead the team out. However giving away four shots was a telling factor and came up just short with a 2&1 defeat.
Captain Ford got off to a flyer and was -2 through seven holes and 4up! Unfortunately after catching up with a mixed event in front and a few poor swings, Ryan came up disappointingly short and lost his match on the 18th.
The Welsh Wizard, Geraint “Nipper” Hughes came back from being down early on to securing a half in his match making the match 0.5-2.5 at that point.
Unfortunately, the middle order of Mike Ford, Hugh Lawes and Tony Howe, who all played brilliant in spells, all came up short and all coming second by the 16th green.
Steve Wells fought hard for a valiant half even though by his self opinion that he could have played better.
However the performance of the day came from Ben Tyrrell. Playing in only his second ever Hardy A match and first away from home, he began with an Eagle on the Par 5 first and continued that form for a comfortable 5&4 victory.
That was Came Down’s first defeat of the season but the team were still in high spirits was they are still top of the league and are on course to becoming Division 4 Champions.
Came’s next fixture is at Home to Lyme Regis on Saturday 11th August. Please come and support the team and we wish them the best of luck in their quest to becoming champions.
