The Hardy A team were in action again this week in the 2nd round of the Cup against Division 2 Leaders Crane Valley. The course was in fine condition and the wind was up on a bright, humid day.
Mark Stickley led the troops out and although giving four shots, fell just short of landing the opening point for Came. Ryan Ford continued his fine form with a 2&1 victory to level the scores after two matches. Undefeated players this season Mike Spearing and Alan Stickley continued that trend with fabulous 5&4 and 3&1 wins respectively to put Came in a great position. Mike Ford was making his first appearance of the season but came up just short in his match to make it a very interesting finish. Tony Howe was next to add a half point to the score line after an incredible comeback, being 3 down with 4 to play. Steve Wells confirmed Came’s passage into the quarter finals after an excellent back 9 performance to close out a 3&2 win. New member and debutant Andrew Heap put in a great display and secured an excellent half point in the final match to extend Came’s final score to a 5-3 win.
It was another fantastic team effort as in 7 of the 8 matches Came were giving away shots. That’s now four wins in the opening four matches this season and team morale is at an all time high. Came will be eagerly hoping for another Home draw in the Quarter Final where they will play either Highcliffe Castle or Broadstone.
Came are back in League action away to Queens Park on Saturday 16th June. Both teams have started the League season with two wins from two so this match is already crucial to the outcome of who will likely finish top of the league. We wish them the very best of luck.
