Came Down march on with their undefeated season with an incredible 4-4 draw away at Queens Park.
A very different type of course that required precision off the tee box. The course was very bouncy and firm but the greens played very fair. The swirling wind made approach play difficult.
Gareth Hughes led the line for the away team and found conditions difficult early on and never quite came back and suffered his first loss of the season.
Captain Ryan Ford secured Came’s first point of the day with an impressive 4&3 win while giving five shots!
Geraint Hughes also lost his 100% record with a narrow defeat.
Mike Spearing continued his fine form this year with a stunning 5&3 win while giving four shots. He is now only one of two players who keep their 100% win rate intact.
Tony Howe started well but had tree trouble and came up just shy of securing any points for a narrow defeat.
Steve Wells, who was running late and gave the Captain a minor heart attack, redeemed himself with a fantastic 6&5 win. That’s his third win in a row now.
With the scores level going into the last two games, Andrew Heap who was 5 up with 6 to play made everyone sweat by taking his game down the last. However a superb approach into 18 secured a 2up victory and 4 wins on the board, giving Came Down a draw at very least.
Scott Cameron was on the tail end and struggled with the conditions but put in a very valiant fight back to make his game close, but still narrowly losing on 17.
An incredible team performance away from home and with this result, puts Came in the driving seat not only for promotion, but securing top spot in the league.
Our next game is against Broadstone away in the Quarter Final of the cup on Sunday 8th July at 3pm. Please come down to support the boys in action. We wish them the very best of luck.
