The Hardy A team march into Round 2 of the Cup after a tough and testing round of games against Rushmore GC.
Mark Stickley led the team off and unfortunately came up just short on the 18th narrowly losing his match. However the next four matches all went in the way of the Came boys with Gareth Hughes, Ryan Ford and Mike Spearing all winning their matches by the 16th hole. Performance of the day was from Geraint Hughes who won 5&3.
The back 9 in all games proved very testing as the bitter winds and horizontal snow made swinging the club very difficult. This was the case in the final three matches where Hugh Lawes, Scott Cameron and Ben Tyrrell came up just short in their matches but had the worse of the conditions, by far, from the earlier starters.
A 4-4 draw was recorded, but being a cup match, sudden death holes were required to determine the outcome. Mark was our nominated player and he did not disappoint. He reapplied his many layers of clothing from the morning he made an outstanding par down the first extra hole, into a brutal head wind, getting up and down from 50 yards to secure Came’s victory and passage into round 2.
A superb effort from everyone involved and all players are looking forward to warmer weather for the next fixture which is home to Folke on Saturday 28th April.
