The Came Down Academy

We launched our Academy a couple of years ago and it is going from strength to strength. Our PGA Professionals, Nick and Sean, make learning to play golf fun and allow people to develop at their own speeds.

Academy members come in all ages, sexes and from differing backgrounds, united by a keenness to start playing golf and mixing with other like-minded, friendly beginners.

The below Q&A might prove useful in answering some potential queries:

Q. What is the Came Down Academy?
A. The Academy is a stepping-stone for people to make a smooth transition from beginners into established golfers and hopefully full club members.

Q. Why have you created an Academy?
A. Starting out in golf can be a very daunting experience. We wanted to create a fun, relaxed way for people to get started.

Q. Who can join the Academy?
A.   Anyone who is new, relatively new or returning to the game after a long lay-off. It is not intended as an avenue to low cost golf.

Q. How does Academy membership work?
A. Membership runs for a year from your joining date. You can remain in the Academy for a max of 2 years. When a suitable standard is achieved we will recommend transference to full club membership.

Q. I’ve never played golf before, does that matter?
A. No, you are perfect. Our PGA Professionals will guide you through every step of your journey to becoming a golfer.

Q. I don’t have any equipment. Can I still join?
A. Absolutely. We have equipment you can borrow and when you feel the time is right our Professionals will advise as to what you may require.

Q. I don’t know any one, can I join on my own?
A. Of course. We hope Academy members will be open to sharing their contact details. Our Professionals will act as liasons to help members meet each other.

Some of the benefits of becoming an Academy Member are:
• 10 golf lessons per annum with one of our PGA Professionals
• 24 x 10 hole rounds of golf per annum (these can’t be played before 1.00 pm)
• Extra rounds may be purchased at the member's guest rate
• Full use of the club’s extensive practice facilities
• Full use of the clubhouse facilities
• A discount card for the bar/catering (currently 5%)
• Welcome to attend all the club's social functions
• Public liability insurance
• Fortnightly roll-up competitions organised by the Professional, a great way to meet fellow Academy members
• A 25% discount on your 1st year's subscription when transferring to full club membership 

Q. What is the cost of becoming an Academy member?
A. A year's membership is £400.00

If you are completely new to golf why not sign up for an hour-long induction with one of our PGA Professionals. This is a great way of learning a few basics and discovering if golf is a sport you are going to enjoy. We discount the cost of this induction, so you pay £45. If you decide to join the Academy you have the option of using the hour induction as two of your lessons.
